Good Morning, St. Augustine!

I’m James and this is the the Old City Lowdown - a newsletter that celebrates St. Augustine one email at a time.

While we were quite fortunate last week to avoid the brunt of Hurricane Helene, much of the southeast was ravaged by high winds and torrential downpours. Keeping those folks in our thoughts on this Monday morning.

Before I jump into it today, I wanted to welcome one of our newest sponsors on board: @StuffToDoInStAugustine. You may be asking, what the heck is that? A big thank you from the Lowdown to our newest partner and I hope you take a few minutes to check them out on Instagram!

In today’s edition:

  • Pope Rd. Repairs 🚧

  • School District Town Halls 🏫

🌊 Save Your Sandbags!

St. Johns County encourages residents to save uncontaminated sandbags for future storms, as the Atlantic hurricane season runs until Nov. 30. Unwanted sand can be scattered in yards, but sandbags that contacted floodwater should be disposed of at the Stratton Road or Tillman Ridge transfer stations. This service is free for residents. Sandbags should not be placed in regular trash or mixed with yard debris. For more information, contact St. Johns County Solid Waste Division at 904-827-6980.

Also, please don’t dump sand on beaches as flood sand can harm nesting shorebirds and sea turtles! (St. Johns County)
