Local News that Actually Matters

🐕‍🦺 St. Augustine Volunteers Bring Comfort to 9/11 Families with Therapy Dogs

On the 23rd anniversary of 9/11, volunteers from St. Augustine's Tri-State Canine Response Team attended the New York City remembrance ceremony to provide therapy dog support to victims' families and first responders. Led by Daniela Terrosi-Gifford and her service dog, Diego, the team offered comfort during this emotional day. This marked their ninth year participating in the event, and they remain the only authorized organization to provide therapy dog services at the ceremony, alongside teams from Texas and Italy. 🍫 St. Augustine: The Chocolate Gateway | Delicious Exhibit Coming Soon

UF professors are creating an exciting exhibit showcasing St. Augustine's surprising role in introducing chocolate to North America in 1641. Thanks to a $14,000 Forrest E. Mars, Jr. Chocolate History Grant, the Governor’s House Cultural Center and Museum will host this interactive chocolate-themed display, with a virtual walking trail via StoryMap. The exhibit opens in December, offering a sweet dive into history for visitors and locals alike! (more info)

🏖️ Serenata Beach Club sold at auction

Serenata Beach Club in Ponte Vedra Beach was sold at auction for $1.5 million after financial troubles led to foreclosure. Owners Jeffery and Molly Butler owed $14.2 million to two lenders, including $11.6 million to St. Augustine-based DLP Capital, which had a lien on the property. Despite the debt being repaid to DLP, the property was still auctioned, ultimately purchased by DLP Capital for just $1.5 million. (more info)

⛵️ There’s a new boat in town

Marcel Geluk, President of Fury Management, has brought a unique adventure to St. Augustine with the launch of Fury Water Adventures. Featuring the Atlantic Fury, a 65-foot sailing catamaran, the company offers two daily cruises: an afternoon dolphin watch and historical tour, and a sunset cruise with live music. Guests can enjoy interactive experiences like helping raise the sails and connecting with the crew. With complimentary snacks and drinks, Fury’s all-inclusive approach keeps things relaxing. Geluk, who moved from Key West in 2021, is excited to offer this special experience to his new St. Augustine community. (more info)

✈️ New non-stop international flight out of JAX - pretty cool, eh?

Starting May 22, 2025, Air Canada will offer nonstop flights from Jacksonville to Toronto, marking the airline’s return after a five-year break. Flights will depart JAX at 10AM. and land in Toronto at 12:45PM. With easy connections to Canada, Europe, and Asia, this new route offers expanded travel options for Northeast Floridians. The two-class CRJ900 aircraft includes 12 business and 64 standard seats. Jacksonville Aviation Authority celebrates Air Canada’s return, further enhancing JAX’s growing flight options. (more info)

Join a 1-mile guided hike along the shady Ancient Dunes Trail! Meet at Hilltop Picnic Area by 9AM, wear comfy shoes, and bring water. 🐍 Get Buzzed for Buzztails: A Night of Fun Supporting Rattlesnake Conservation

Join The Rattlesnake Conservancy for the 8th Annual Get Buzzed for Buzztails charity fundraiser on Saturday, September 14th, from 6-9PM at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm! This exciting event features craft brews, local food, a mini symposium, raffles, and a live auction—all to support rattlesnake conservation efforts. Your ticket includes dinner, drinks, and access to exclusive after-hours fun at the Alligator Farm. Proceeds benefit vital research and education to protect rattlesnakes and their habitats. 🎸 EMMA Concert Series kicks off with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet

Founded in 1979 as the Emil Maestre Music Association, EMMA Concert Association is a non-profit that offers affordable music and dance performances while supporting St. Johns County schools with funds, equipment, and instruments.

For the 46th season of the EMMA Concert Season, the association has six shows scheduled between September ‘24 - April ‘25. The first of these concerts takes place this Sunday with the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.

Single show ($30) & season tickets ($175) are available online. Concerts take place at Flagler College’s Lewis Auditorium at 14 Granada St. Please click here for more information including parking, show details, and the season lineup.

🐢 Trampled by Turtles moved to Main Stage; more tickets released

Exciting news for the jamgrass pioneers from Duluth, MN! As part of the Sing Out Loud Festival, The Trampled by Turtles show scheduled for the Backyard Stage at The Amp on September 19th has been moved to the Main Stage. Get your tickets below and let’s show the fellas how St. Augustine gets down on a Thursday night!

This event is presented by the Friends of the St. Augustine Amphitheatre and a portion of the proceeds will benefit The Sea Turtle Hospital at UF Whitney Lab.
