Snappers coming to Vilano Main Street, Agrihood shot down, Whiskey, Wine & Wildlife this weekend + more St. Augustine news & events
Good Morning, St. Augustine!
I’m James, and this is the Old City Lowdown—and if you thought you were done voting for the year, think again! Starting today, we’ll be featuring St. Augustine trivia every Wednesday. Think you’re an expert on the Old City? Cast your vote below.
And speaking of voting, last week I ran a poll asking what your favorite Halloween candy was. The votes are in, and more than half of readers chose Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups as the top sweet treat—which begs the question: do you pronounce it ree-sees or ree-suhz?
Anyway, let’s get to some trivia 👇️

🏛 BCC Rejects 'Agrihood’ Development
The St. Johns County Commission unanimously rejected the proposed 3,332-home “agrihood” west of St. Augustine, citing concerns over infrastructure and incomplete application details. Community members and County Commissioners expressed that the project wasn’t ready for approval, emphasizing its incompatibility with the area’s rural character. (Noah Hertz, Jacksonville Today)
🍽️ New Restaurant Coming to Vilano Main Street?
Nathan Stuart and Margo Klar, owners of St. Augustine Fish House & Oyster Co. and Outback Crab Shack, are planning a new restaurant on Vilano Main Street. Snappers, proposed as an 8,228-square-foot venue with a bar, dining, and rooftop space, awaits county approval on stormwater and land use permits. If approved, the restaurant will enhance Vilano’s revitalizing district. (J. Brooks Terry, Jacksonville Daily Record)
